2007 Conference: Added Attractions
FIRST PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP
For the first time ever in the history of the NECCC Conference we will have a three hour pre-Conference workshop in Photoshop Elements. Join Tom Icklan, APSA (NJ) and Mark Southard, APSA (IL) for an intensive workshop on Photoshop Elements Friday, July 13 from 9am to noon. Learn basic color correction, selections through layer and montages, masks and artistic effects. Attendees must bring their own laptop with Adobe Elements 4 or 5 preloaded, and their own images. An additional pre-requisite for the workshop is that participants must have the ability to get images into the program and be able to open an image within the program. Participants in this pre-Conference workshop must be paid registrants for the Conference, and there is an additional fee of $50 for the workshop (see registration form). Class size is extremely limited. Register early. If paying by check you must write a separate check for the Conference and another check for the pre-Conference class.
CANON AND NIKON LOANER EQUIPMENT
This will be a first for our Conference. Canon and Nikon have graciously agreed to bring their top of the line equipment for attendees to borrow by the hour for use during the weekend. All the details have not yet been finalized, but we expect the equipment to be available on Friday and Saturday. Each attendee will be allowed to borrow the equipment for 90 minutes at a time and will have to provide a driver’s license and major credit card for identification and copying. The copied information will be returned to you when you return the equipment. Memory cards will come with the camera for your use, but if you wish to retain your digital images you will have to provide the means to do it (e.g. memory card). Cards will be available for purchase at Hunt’s. Both Canon and Nikon will be located in the Campus Center (first floor vendor area at the bottom of the escalator).
DIGITAL MINI-SEMINAR SERIES
This series of three one-hour classes (presented twice during the weekend) is designed for new users of digital cameras. The purpose is to work with small groups of beginning users of digital cameras to help them understand the language of “digital” cameras. Class One covers Histograms and White Balance. Class Two covers Navigating the Camera Menu and Downloading Images. Class Three is a hands-on class where attendees bring their cameras (and camera manuals) to learn how to use the camera’s features to take better photos in a variety of conditions and settings. Instructors for these sessions are Tom Icklan, APSA (NJ), Bob Singer, MNEC (MA), David Singer, MNEC (MA), and Mark Southard, APSA (IL). Other committee members and presenters will assist Tom and Mark during Class Three.
TWO HANDS-ON WORKSHOP/SEMINAR COMBINATIONS
First: Jerome Hamilton will be joining us from Las Vegas, NV with his portraiture program “Basic Lighting for Fashion Portraiture”. The workshop will be part of the Hi-Jinx setup on Friday, July 13 from 1:30-4:30pm. Jerome will be there to answer your lighting questions and allow you the opportunity to move the lights around a bit on the models. There will be a 3 shot, ten-minute rule per person. You will then have to get back in line. Ideally we would have preferred to present the workshop after the lecture classes, but because of room scheduling problems, this will not be possible. Therefore, we will be presenting Jerome’s formal teaching classes on Saturday and Sunday, after the workshop is over. However, we believe that registrants can still benefit greatly from taking both the workshop and one of the classes.
Second: We have a great black light workshop. Dan Charbonnet, FPSA, MNEC will teach you all you want to know about “Details Under Black Light” in the classroom Friday and Saturday morning. He will then have a hands-on workshop as part of the Hi-Jinx set-up on Saturday, 1-5pm and Sunday morning. You will need close-up equipment (film or digital) in order to participate in the Hi-Jinx setups.
