The New England Camera Club Council
2007 Conference: Program Descriptions
Cut Glass Details Under Black
Light by
Daniel Charbonnet,
FPSA, MNEC (MA)
This abstract photography technique is one of many to let you enjoy using
black light as the light source. This particular technique uses close-up
details of cut glassware to create the abstract designs. This is a two-part
program. The classroom portion of the program will show attendees how to set
up their own equipment to take these types of images as well as instructions
in the equipment and techniques needed. The shooting session will give you
the opportunity to take actual images using the presenter’s set-up and
glassware. To take advantage of the shooting sessions, attendees will need
close-up equipment and if possible, a cable release. Macro lenses
are best but extension tubes and filter type close-up lens also work well.
Please note: This is a close-up technique that requires at least .5x
magnification (2” x 3” picture area). A so-called macro zoom may only
provide .25x to .33x magnification when used alone.
(B,I,A)

Jewels
Down and Dirty: Birds and More
by Dave Gardner (NY)
This show came about as
Dave was photographing birds one day during the film era. “I photographed
warblers and other birds at several near-by locations and thought that they
were like little jewels of nature”; hence the title. The down and dirty
part comes from the fact that I lay prone to get eye level shots of shore
birds. In a short lecture, I will teach how I photograph birds and other
wildlife, and how digital has impacted my shooting and presentations. A
short digital show will illustrate the techniques of this presentation.

Working with Kids
by Bobbi Lane (CT)
Kids are innocent, honest,
joyous, unpretentious, curious, and funny. There is a poem about children
that says they are made of “sugar and spice and everything nice”. However,
this adage has little application in the world of stock and commercial
photography. The challenge is to make the kids look as though they are.
Working with children means you’ll experience many different sides of them,
their moods and emotions-such as being obstinate willful, cranky, defiant,
bored, hungry, on sugar highs, and the biggest one of all – out to push all
their parents’ buttons. In fairness, when working with children you’ll also
get to see more agreeable sides – the pure, gentle souls of loving children,
the naturals in front of the camera, the funny, entertaining, bright, and
cooperative angels, - that makes this job a joy. (B,I,A)
