Have you photographed a nature subject that you cannot identify? NECCC is pleased to announce a new nature subject identification service that Rick Cloran, HonFPSA, GMPSA, HonNEC offers. Rick provides this same service for PSA members and is offering it to members of NECCC clubs. There is no charge for the service.
It is as simple as this. Send Rick one or more images (more taken from differing angles is better) of the subject and tell him where and when you took the images. For example, a frog taken while on an eco-photography trip to Ecuador. Let Rick know the dates, country and, if possible, lodge, park, or altitude you took the image at. If you were hiking in the Cascade Mountains in June and capture the image, that is the type of information that helps Rick to refine an ID. If it is a plant, knowing where it was growing, its size and any other particulars can help with an ID. Plants can be tough, so no promises made on being able to identify flowering plants when they are not flowering.
Send your jpeg images sized 1920 x 1080 or 1400 x 1050 along with a note with all of the information you can provide to Rick at neccc-nature_id@neccc.org. Put “Subject Identification” in the Subject line along with your club’s name. We plan to put the image and ID of the subject out in a gallery on the NECCC website as a reference source for other members.
Here is what a typical ID might look like —
